TERMS OF THE COMPETITION
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
This Championship is open to (1) male amateur golfers who hold an (2) active, up-to-date USGA Handicap Index (6.0 max) issued through a licensed golf club in New York. Nonresidents of New York may be eligible, click here for the NYSGA's eligibility requirements.
ENTRY INFORMATION
- Entries: Players must register online before the deadline. A player may only submit one entry, an intentional breach of this rule may result in disqualification.
- Entry Fee: This championship employs a two-tiered fee:
- Qualifying Fee: $125.
- Exempt & Qualifying Player Fee: $250.
- Deadline: Entries must be received prior to the deadline (12PM EST on Thursday, May 29, 2025). Late entries can't be accepted, regardless of reason.

CHAMPIONSHIPS, FORMAT, & SCHEDULE
- Format & Schedule: This Championship will be in two stages, at stroke play
- Sectional Qualifying - 18 holes: Non-exempt players must secure a spot via sectional qualifying (see below).
- Championship - 72 holes: This field consists of place-winners from sectional qualifying and exempt players.
- July 7 // Practice Rd
- July 8 // Rd 1, 18 holes
- July 9 // Rd 2, 18 holes
- July 10 // Rd 3+4, 36 holes
- Cut: After 36 holes to the low 40-players and ties.
- Ties: A tie for the Champion will broken by sudden-death playoff, held immediately following play.
2025 U.S. AMATEUR EXEMPTION & RANKINGS
The winner of the 2025 NYS Men's Amateur Championship will earn an exemption to compete in the 2025 U.S. Amateur Championship, played August 11-17 at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, California. The top-3 finishers receive an exemption from local qualifying for the 2026 U.S. Amateur Championship.
This Championship is ranked by World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) and is a signature event on the Team New York points schedule.
CADDIES AND GOLF CARTS
- Caddies: Are APPROVED for all stages of this Championship. The use of a caddie is not required. The host club does not have any caddies available.
- Motorized Cart: Are PROHIBITED for all stages of this Championship.
- Push Cart (Manual & Electric): Are APPROVED for all stages of this Championship. A seat attachment must not be used by the player or caddie, please remove it to avoid any breach of this Rule. Push carts must be kept off tee boxes, putting greens and fringes.
SECTIONAL QUALIFYING SCHEDULE
All non-exempt players must qualify for the Championship. Once entries close, the number of qualifying spots available per qualifying site will be posted and emailed to players. Ties (max of 4) for the last qualifying spot advance. If there are more than 4 ties, the last qualifying spot will be determined using the USGA method of matching scorecards.

SITE FULL*
A qualifier denoted with an asterisk (*) is at capacity. The final qualifying field of these qualifiers will consist of the players with the lowest USGA Handicap Index as of the entry deadline. A player can choose to remain on the waitlist or may change qualifying sites by notifying the NYSGA via email at champs@nysga.org.
TRANSFERS
The NYSGA may permit a registered player to transfer their entry to another qualifying site, but they must follow the directions below:
- Notify the NYSGA by email (champs@nysga.org).
- The transferring player may be placed on an alternates list for the new site, or fill any openings.
- Alternates are ranked by the time and date of receipt of entry.
- A player can change qualifying sites up until 12pm (noon) of the day prior of the qualifying site the entrant was accepted to.
LAST CHANCE QUALIFIER
The Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) is open to all players - even those who have previously attempted to qualify. The site and date will be announced shortly after entries close.
EXEMPT PLAYERS
- 2025 Exemption Categories: Who is exempt from qualifying for the 2025 NYS Men's Amateur Championship.
- Special Exemption Request: Submit to be considered for a special exemption, must demonstrate impressive recent tournament history.
- The NYSGA reserves the right to revise any of the exemption categories. Exempt players must submit an entry prior to the deadline.
INFORMATION & PAIRINGS
Complete Championship details, including information about practice rounds, pairings, starting times, and yardages played, will be emailed/texted to players and posted on this website after the entry deadline.
